A Salute To Earl Morphew
On behalf of the Appalachian Highlanders, we send our thoughts and prayers to the family of Earl Morphew. Earl was a dedicated member of AHPD for many years and he will be greatly missed for his friendship, talent, and contribution to his world.

Earl was a veteran firefighter, serving the Bristol, VA and Chilhowie, VA fire departments, and a flight paramedic to the WellmontOne helicopter based at Takoma Regional Hospital in Greeneville, TN. He was widely known in emergency medical and firefighting circles.

An honest man here lies at rest
As e'er God with his image blest;
The friend of man, the friend of truth,
The friend of age, and guide of youth:
Few hearts like his, with virtue warm'd,
Few heads with knowledge so informed:
If there's another world, he lives in bliss;
If there is none, he made the best of this.
~ Robert Burns, 1784

Welcome to the Appalachian Highlanders Pipes and Drums Web site. We are the pipe band formerly known as the Abingdon Highlanders Pipes and Drums, but we chose to change our name to reflect the more regional nature of our group. The band was originally formed in the early 1990's by a group of local musicians with an interest in the Highland Bagpipes. The current band is composed of pipers and drummers from Southwest Virginia, Upper East Tennessee, and Southern West Virginia. If you would like to find out more about us, please browse our site.
